The Velvet Society - an NEYFS Fundraiser

Step into 1929.
The streets are quiet, but the night is alive. Somewhere behind a hidden door, beneath a flickering lamp on a quiet corner, a secret is being kept—and shared.
Inside, candlelight flickers on velvet drapes. Trumpets whisper. A piano hums like heartbeat. In the haze of smoke and shadow, a voice rises—low, deep, full of soul—and the room stills.
This is The Velvet Society: a hidden refuge, inspired by the underground clubs of the Harlem Renaissance, where composers once defied silence with sound, and where rhythm was both resistance and release. A place where all were welcome—no code, no cover, no color line. Only the music, the mission, and the moment.
Tonight, we gather not just to remember—but to reignite.
Just as jazz once gave voice to the unheard, we give without question.
No forms. No barriers. No judgment.
Food for the hungry. Clothes for the cold. Dignity for all.
Because even now, behind many doors, people go without.
But not here. Not in this Society.
So slip past the curtain. Take a seat at the table.
Tonight, generosity wears a feather boa. Hope has a jazz flame.
And every note played brings us one step closer to a world where no one is left behind.
